Project Overview

Summary

Each summer before the fall semester begins, SUU hosts a freshman orientation.  In this orientation they select certain upperclassmen to be Tavi group leaders. A Tavi leader is the name given to the small groups of incoming students.  Each incoming student was assigned to a Tavi group, where they remained for the entire orientation. I interviewed this past March to become a group leader, then I attended all the necessary meetings to properly prepare for this event. This fall, they decided to change the official name of the leaders to interest group leaders, which are the same thing as Tavi group leaders.  When I first started here at SUU, my Tavi group leader was on the same career path as I was. I frequently asked for his advice as to what classes I should take and what professors he liked the best. I felt that this experience helped me connect with the new students, to be able to give them the same help I was given. I also believe this helped me learn to make people feel more comfortable with big changes in their lives as I want to be a doctor.  I feel that being able to relate to people and learning to serve them will help me be the best doctor possible.
